Since school, I've been...
So many things. Even though sports was in high school and still is my main interest Ive always a lot of other interests and a strong intellect which sports doesnt satisy. I earned a BA in Journalism from GSU after graduating from CK and was a sports reporter for The Signal GSU newspaper. I interviewed Steve Bartkowski after the FalconsCincinnati Bengals game in 1975 when he was a rookie quarerback. In 1996, I was a sports reporter for the Gwinnett Herald and covered several of the 1996 Olympics events. In between that, I earned a MSW from UGA in 1985 and worked in that field for several years, including working with the homeless in downtown Atlanta. I never found a right job in either of those fields. I got married and divorced and have two daughters, now ages 22 and 20. I worked in accounting for a number of years to make a living. Have been going to the Ocoee river and whitewater rafting since 1978. I have been a member of the Atlanta Astronomy club for several years. Astronomy has always been an interest and hobby of mine. |
My family:
I have remarried (in 2008) to a wonderful woman, Gail, who is also divorced has two children (son 18 and daughter 21). We met at Perimeter church in Duluth and are members there. We live in Sugar Hill, GA. As I mentioned, I have two daughters from my first marriage ages 22 and 20. One is a student at GSU studying Psychology and the other is going to Perimeter College studying to be a nurse. My parents and brothers (3 who all went to Cross Keys) still all live in the Atlanta area. One of younger brothers had a stroke in July, 2008. He lost a great deal of functioning on his left side. Since then, he probably has recovered about 25 of functioning and is still in a wheelchair. |
Life experiences:
I have enjoyed my whitewater rafting experiences. Went to Cancun for a memorable trip. The birth of my daughters. My wedding day second marriage. Running in 10Ks, halfmarathons. Some of the people that I interviewed and met during my sports reporting days (Steve Bartkowski, Skip Carey, Furman Bisher, Dikembe Motoumbo, Doug Collins, June Jones, Jeff George, Jesse Tuggle, Angelo Dundee, Antonio Tarver). Believe that many of my greatest life experiences lie ahead. |
My favorite things in school:
Sports. Ran cross country and track, played some basketball. Learning, in general. |
My favorite things now:
Ive always enjoyed learning. Ive always enjoyed sports and staying physically fit. Still run in 5Ks to halfmarathons. Work out at Golds gym several times per week. My main recreational sport now is golf. Didnt start playing until 4 years ago. When I was younger, I played basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, racquetball in different leagues. Golf was for middleage men. Now, thats me. I earned a Personal Trainer certification from the National Association of Sports Medicine in 2007. Would like to pursue a career assisting in clinical studies involving exercise. There is definitely a strong need for those types of studies to show (in a scientific manner) how effective physical exercise is for overall health (physical and mental). Still keep up with astronomy. Astonomers are finding more and more extraterrestrial planets. Telescopes are being refined more and more to find Earthsized planets. Also heard today that the first Space hotel is opening soon and they will be commonplace in the next few years. Im always ready for that next challenge. |
My favorite books, movies and music:
Some of my favorites movies over the years have been:
Jeremiah Johnson, One Flew over the Cuckoos Nest, Rocky, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jaws, Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump, Gladiator, Million Dollar Baby. Music still love the music that I grew up on (60s and 70s). Still have approx. 100 albums from those years. Favorite group Chicago. Other favorites ELO, Santana, Stevie Wonder, Beatles, Moody Blues. |
